Not long ago, Jennifer Brunner said something nice about John Kasich.
And yesterday, the Republican governor appointed the former Democratic secretary of state to a two-year term on the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission.
No one is saying Kasich gave Brunner the nod as a result of her kind words after his speech to the Columbus Metropolitan Club in late July. She said then that Kasich has been “very effective” in office and “you can tell that he cares.” Virtually all Democrats in office, or those who just left, have been critical of Kasich.
Brunner and Kasich’s political opponent last year, former Gov. Ted Strickland, were not exactly close. (Strickland’s lieutenant governor, Lee Fisher, beat Brunner in a U.S. Senate Democratic primary in 2010.)
“I got a call from the governor’s office saying he was interested in appointing me,” said Brunner, who will assume one of four commission slots designated for people outside the Republican party. “I enjoy and believe in public service and am glad to do my part.”
Also yesterday, Kasich named Dr. Randell Wexler of New Albany to the Public Health Council.
